With Eid-ul-Adha just around the corner, the hustle and bustle around cattle markets peaks, often bringing cities to a grinding halt. To tackle the twin challenges of festive traffic congestion and the blistering summer heat, the Rajshahi Urban Youth Council stepped up with a timely community initiative.

From May 24 to May 26, 2026, the Youth Council successfully conducted a three-day public awareness campaign. The initiative was held under the supervision and close cooperation of SERAC-Bangladesh and the Rajshahi City Corporation.

Tackling the Eid Rush at North Bengal’s Largest Cattle Market

The campaign was strategically organized near the Rajshahi City Bypass Market and the adjacent main cattle market-widely recognized as the largest gorur haat (cattle market) in the North Bengal region. During the Eid season, these areas experience a massive influx of traders, buyers, and vehicles, making them hotspots for severe traffic jams and commuter distress.

The primary goals of this campaign were:

• Preventing Traffic Congestion: Ensuring a smoother flow of vehicles to reduce the misery of home-bound Eid travelers.
• Promoting Road Safety: Educating pedestrians and drivers on safe road navigation during peak hours.
• Heatwave Management: Raising awareness on how to stay safe and hydrated during the ongoing severe heatwave.

The campaign was led by Dr. Abid, the Secretary of the Rajshahi Urban Youth Council. Under his dynamic leadership, youth councilors alongside passionate volunteers from various local voluntary organizations worked tirelessly on the ground.
