To promote public awareness on building a clean, healthy, and livable city, the Mymensingh Urban Youth Council, with the support of Mymensingh City Corporation and SERAC-Bangladesh, staged an environmental awareness street drama titled “Aborjona” (Waste) today at the premises of Mymensingh City Corporation.

The event was organized under the patronage of Md. Rukunuzzaman Rukon, Administrator of Mymensingh City Corporation, who also inaugurated the programme. Sumona al Mojid  (Deputy Secretary), Chief Executive Officer, and Muhammad Rajib-ul-Ahashan, General Manager (Transport) of Mymensingh City Corporation attended the event as special guests.

Among others present were Md. Kamran Mia, Network Officer of SERAC-Bangladesh, members of the Mymensingh Urban Youth Council, and officials and staff of Mymensingh City Corporation.

The street drama highlighted the importance of proper waste management, environmental protection, and responsible civic behavior. Through engaging performances, it illustrated how indiscriminate waste disposal, poor waste management practices, and public negligence adversely affect the urban environment, public health, and overall quality of life. The performance also emphasized the collective responsibility of citizens in maintaining cleanliness by disposing of waste properly and adopting environmentally responsible practices.

The central message of the drama was:

“A clean city ensures a healthy family.”

A clean city is not merely a symbol of beauty but a prerequisite for public health, environmental sustainability, and improved quality of life. Building a clean, healthy, and livable city requires the active participation and shared responsibility of every citizen.

The drama was written by Sojib Hasan Sany, Councilor of the Mymensingh Urban Youth Council, and directed by Jahangir Alam Robin, a student of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University. Performances were delivered by members of the Mymensingh Urban Youth Council, including Md. Robin Miah, Minhajul Islam, and other members.

Speaking at the event, Md. Rukunuzzaman Rukon, commended the contribution of young people in promoting environmental conservation, proper waste management, and civic awareness. He noted that active citizen participation is essential for building a clean and livable city. He further expressed his optimism that such community-based awareness initiatives would continue in the future and assured the City Corporation’s full support for the Mymensingh Urban Youth Council’s public-interest initiatives.
