A significant exchange and planning meeting of the Mymensingh Urban Youth Council was held today, organized by the Council with the support of SERAC-Bangladesh. Since its formation, the Youth Council has actively contributed to urban development through a range of initiatives, including traffic congestion campaigns, cleanliness drives, tree-planting programs, climate change awareness activities, dengue prevention and health campaigns, youth skills development training, social issue discussions, and other volunteer initiatives. In addition, the Council has played a proactive role in coordinating with local authorities to raise public awareness, identify citizen concerns, and provide actionable proposals. During the meeting, a detailed action plan was adopted to ensure the continuity and effectiveness of these programs.

The meeting was moderated by Md. Salim Miah, Deputy Director of SERAC-Bangladesh. Md. Roknuzzaman Rokon, Administrator of Mymensingh City Corporation, attended as the Chief Guest, while SM Shaikat, Executive Director of SERAC-Bangladesh, Md. Zahurul Haque, Supervising Engineer (Civil) of the City Corporation, and Junior Executive Officer Md. Aminul Islam attended as special guests.

In his address, Chief Guest Md. Roknuzzaman Rokon emphasized, “Engaging the youth can make urban development initiatives more dynamic. The Mymensingh Urban Youth Council can play a vital role in this regard. Monthly coordination meetings will monitor youth council activities, ensuring collective efforts for the city’s development.”

SERAC-Bangladesh Executive Director S M Shaikat highlighted, “Through the Youth Council, young people’s voices can effectively reach policymaking processes. The Council will serve as a unified platform where all youth organizations can work together for the holistic development of the city.”

Council Secretary Md. Robin Mia, along with Youth Council members Md. Sojib Hasan Sany, Md. Riad, Shahena Aktar, Takia Aktar, Afsana Aktar Mila, Aniruddho Islam Ishan, Salahuddin Sadi, and Jannatul Ferdous Mim, presented key proposals to the City Administrator. Additionally, youth representatives from organizations such as DICEC, Divya Academy, Biplobi Academy, Bishwo Natyangon, TIB, Youth for Future, Scouts, CleanUp Bangladesh, Rapid Response BD, as well as media personnel, shared their perspectives during the session.

A detailed presentation on the Youth Council’s activities was delivered by Project Manager Lutfa Pathan, with support from Network Officer Md. Kamran Mia and Project Officer Shapla Aktar of SERAC-Bangladesh.

The meeting reinforced the importance of youth engagement, collective planning, and coordinated efforts with local authorities to ensure a sustainable and inclusive urban development process in Mymensingh.
