Mymensingh Urban Youth Council Spearheads Road Safety Campaign for Eid Commuters
With the holy occasion of Eid-ul-Adha fast approaching, ensuring a safe, comfortable, and congestion-free journey for home-bound commuters has become a top priority. In light of this, a day-long public awareness campaign was organized in Mymensingh city on May 26, 2026. This timely initiative was spearheaded by the Mymensingh Urban Youth Council, with active support from SERAC-Bangladesh and the Mymensingh City Corporation.
The campaign was conducted under the direct guidance of Mr. Md. Rukunuzzaman Rokon, the Administrator of the Mymensingh City Corporation. To maximize the impact of the initiative, youth councilors were deployed to several of the city’s most critical and high-traffic transit points, including Bridge Mor, Hakkani Mor, the Kewatkhali 3-Way Crossroad, and the Bypass Intersection. At these busy hubs, the young leaders actively engaged with the public to advocate for road safety.
Throughout the day, the youth councilors focused on raising awareness about the importance of maintaining strict road discipline, adhering to traffic laws, and prioritizing safety to ensure accident-free travel. Beyond spreading these vital messages, the volunteers also demonstrated a strong sense of community care. Recognizing the physical toll of traveling in the heat, they distributed safe drinking water and oral saline packets to weary passengers, drivers, and pedestrians.
The successful execution of this campaign highlights the vital role young people can play in civic management and public welfare. By encouraging responsible behavior on the roads, the organizers hope to significantly reduce traffic disruptions and accidents during the festive rush.
The core philosophy of the drive was perfectly encapsulated in its closing motto:
“Let awareness grow, let accidents decrease may everyone return home in safety and peace.”
