On 26 February, a Peace Adda was held in Narayanganj under the joint initiative of SERAC-Bangladesh and Narayanganj Urban Youth Council. The theme of the discussion was “Youth Participation and Media Engagement in Preventing Post-Election Violence.”

The event was attended by young boys and girls, students, young journalists, online content creators, and volunteers from different areas and ideological backgrounds within Narayanganj City Corporation. The discussion provided an inclusive platform for participants to share their perspectives and experiences.

Elections are a fundamental part of the democratic process. However, the post-election period can sometimes be marked by misinformation, rumors, political polarization, and social tension, which may lead to violence. The rapid growth of digital platforms and mass media has expanded opportunities for communication, but it has also increased the spread of misleading and provocative content.

Peace Adda, an initiative of SERAC-Bangladesh, serves as an open dialogue platform for youth. It brings together young people from diverse religious, cultural, and ideological backgrounds to engage in constructive discussions on key contemporary issues such as democracy, peace, climate change, health, education, and social justice. The platform encourages the exchange of ideas and creates opportunities for youth voices to be reflected in policy processes.

The objectives of the event were to raise awareness about the causes and impacts of post-election violence, promote responsible engagement in online platforms and media, discuss strategies to identify and prevent misinformation, and gather recommendations from youth for future policy consideration.

Through this initiative, it is expected that youth voices will become more organized and impactful in promoting peace, responsible communication, and social harmony.
